Council member Wrigley said the Mental Health Awareness Craft Fair is scheduled for Sept. 13; 36 organizations and vendors had signed up at the time of the meeting, including nonprofits and food trucks, and therapy dogs were scheduled to attend. Wrigley said two bands (including Los Dudes) had expressed interest in donating time and a DJ option was available at about $100 per hour; organizers were considering modest paid promotion to raise turnout.
Council member Smiley said planning was underway for the city’s veterans program, which will be held in the morning this year; additional details will be announced.
Council member Thompson reported on the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) and ongoing PFAS sampling concerns. Thompson said contractors and an Air Force representative (identified in discussion as Lindsey Burt) told the city that Sunset is within the largest part of a contamination plume and that property access for testing has been limited; Thompson urged residents to allow sampling so officials can gather concrete data.
Chief Jamieson reported continuing challenges with property upkeep across the city, noting staff issue many letters and citations and still receive complaints. He said the worst properties are now being cited and some remain in court from prior citations.
Public Works Director Jason Monroe said the city had engaged Precision Concrete Cutting to evaluate sidewalks citywide; once that assessment is returned staff will prioritize repairs using allocated funds. Monroe also discussed an older valve that was not on current records; crews improvised a temporary repair and later found replacement parts.
Office staff reported the city submitted its moderate-income housing report “on the first” and was awaiting notice on recommendations. The office also announced that Police Department secretary Judy Hampton, a 33-year city employee, will retire on Aug. 21 with a noon celebration planned.
The mayor and staff also described outreach about an Agent Orange-related display and memorial concept tied to the Hill Air Force Base Museum and national recognition; the idea would site a memorial in Sunset as part of broader regional stops, though details and next steps remain under discussion.
No formal actions were recorded for these reports; the items were presented for council and departmental information and to direct follow-up where staff indicated further work would be required.
