When you first enter the world of Lego Fortnite, most things will have the ability to one or two-shot you. You start off with three hearts of health and hunger that must be satiated regularly. There is only one way to increase your maximum health in Lego Fortnite and that is with Charms.

Increasing your health from three hearts to around ten hearts is a big upgrade. Equipment Charms do way more than increase your health, though. There are different types of Charms that add different buffs and stats to help you navigate the dangerous world.
How To Unlock Charms
The only way to get charms is by crafting them at a crafting bench, which you can place by selecting Q on the keyboard (B on Xbox and Circle on PS) to open up your Utility crafting menu. The crafting benches can be upgraded, so you should work towards upgrading yours fully, as it will increase the number of recipes available to you, including the number of Charms you can craft.
The first Common crafting bench can only craft one charm, the Health Charm, and each level of the crafting bench will increase the rarity of some Charms and add new Charm recipes.
The rarity levels go by Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic.
Every Charm And What They Do
There are over eight different Charms in the game that come in different rarity levels, and most of them will increase the amount of hearts you have as well as add defense. There is no armor in the game, so you will get your protection from attacks by equipping different Charms to increase your defense.
